Spring 2021 Frey Foundation Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture with Henry Louis Gates Jr.

On Feb. 9, Henry Louis Gates Jr. delivered the Frey Foundation Distinguished Visiting Professor Lecture for the UNC-Chapel Hill College of Arts & Sciences. The free webinar featured the literary scholar and filmmaker in conversation with Karla Slocum, director of UNC’s Institute of African American Research. The conversation, "The Legacy of Reconstruction and the Rise of Jim Crow," includes a 12-minute film clip from “Reconstruction: America After the Civil War” and an audience Q&A.

The Frey Foundation Distinguished Visiting Professorship is one of the highest honors bestowed by the College of Arts & Sciences to distinguished public leaders. Established in 1989, it brings to campus renowned speakers from a variety of fields, including government, public policy, international affairs and the arts and sciences.
